Prince William Set to Attend UN Climate Conference in Brazil

Prince William plans to participate in the COP30 climate summit in Brazil during November, according to royal officials.

The father and son duo appeared together on Thursday night at a gathering preceding the environmental conference, which is scheduled to take place in the northern Brazilian city of Belém.

Father and son were in attendance at the Natural History Museum reception, marking an rare public appearance together at a pre-COP30 gathering organized in partnership with the UK government.

Climate Leadership Commitment

King Charles has been a longstanding advocate of biodiversity preservation - and the Prince of Wales has taken on the baton, with his own Earthshot awards, which will be taking place in South America ahead of the UN meeting.

Royal sources have portrayed Prince William's attendance at the next COP as taking on an significant responsibility in "global climate discussions".

Recent Engagements

The monarch and his heir, arriving together in the state Bentley, were greeted guests including environmentalists, scientists, climate change campaigners, foreign representatives and politicians.

This engagement involved presentations together with French leader Macron of the French Republic and other world leaders at the Ocean Finance Summit in Monaco earlier this year.

Environmental Prize Link

The COP30 summit will coincide with the William's personal Earthshot environmental awards, which will wrap up in the Brazilian city the previous day he participates in the climate conference on November 6th.

Last week the prince described the award contenders as "modern-day pioneers".

Monarch's Environmental Record

The monarch has been a key figure at past COP meetings, providing the introductory remarks in the United Arab Emirates for COP28, including the reminder: "We are custodians of the planet, not its owners".

"Throughout my life I've dedicated a significant amount of my life trying to raise awareness about the existential threats facing us over climate change, environmental shifts and species extinction," the King told participants.
