Patriots Equal Longest Winning Streak From Tom Brady Years with Triumph Against Jets
First-year player Henderson has scored five scores this season
The New England Patriots equaled their top unbeaten stretch since the Tom Brady era as they overcame division opponents the New York Jets 27-14 in the NFL
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson was the standout with three scores as the Patriots notched an eighth straight win for the first time since star signal-caller Brady's closing campaign with the team in 2019
Signal-caller Drake Maye accumulated 281 yards and a TD, connecting on 25 of 34 passes
Victory bolsters the Patriots advantage at the top of the AFC East as they moved to nine wins and two defeats, with the New York at the foot after slipping to two victories and eight defeats
The Jets had taken the lead at Gillette Stadium with QB Justin Fields scoring a five-yard touchdown to finish the Jets' opening drive
But the Patriots fought back in the second period as Henderson ran in two seven-yard TDs before the running back caught a pass from Drake Maye at the rear of the endzone midway through the third period to push the score to 21-7
"That was a key occasion for him rising to the challenge, and it's been great for him to keep getting these reps," Maye commented on the rookie. "He desires to be excellent."
Justin Fields threw to Metchie in the latter part of the third period to narrow the deficit for the visitors but Andy Borregales booted a pair of field goals in the final period as the home side wrapped up the win
